Weston band performs at Many Cultures, One People event

JFS, a family service agency that provides help to 23,000 people annually, raised almost $40,000 through the show at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts. Weston Farmer's Market to take place on Saturday

Wexner, director of the Digestive Disease Center and chairman of the Department of Colorectal Surgery at Cleveland Clinic Florida in Weston, has been awarded the SAGES Distinguished Service Award for 2014 by the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. SAGES is a leading surgical society representing a worldwide community of more than 7,000 surgeons. National Help a Horse Day event set in Southwest Ranches

equine.jpg The Florida Research Institute Equine Nurturing Development and Safety Horse Rescue, 19801 Sheridan St. in Southwest Ranches, will be celebrating the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ “National Help a Horse Day” from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, April 26 to compete for a chance to win a $10,000 grant. Winners of the nationwide competition for equine rescues and sanctuaries are based on who raises the most awareness about programs for at-risk horses in their community. Events will include a “horse wash” for all 51 horses at the facility. There will also be a free BBQ for everyone who comes out to help. Lane closures to continue on Bonaventure Boulevard

laneclosed.jpg Lane closures and traffic delays should be anticipated on Bonaventure Boulevard from Three Village Road to Indian Trace until about May 9. The city is implementing the Weston Drainage Improvement Project in certain areas. The project targets areas in need of drainage improvements, which will reduce the ponding of rain water runoff along roadways. Additionally, culvert pipes connecting lakes together under specific roadway locations will be installed or upgraded to a larger size, improving the entire storm water management system. The project includes the construction of culverts, drainage structures, pipes, asphalt pavement restoration, roadside swales, lake/canal slopes and landscaping. Locations include portions of Lakeview Drive, Blatt Boulevard, Redwood Way, Southwest Fifth Way, Ranch Road and Bonaventure Boulevard. Police Services Academy to be offered to Weston youngsters

BSO.jpg Weston residents ages 11-17 can be part of a program started by the local Broward Sheriff’s Office district. The Weston University – Broward Sheriff’s Office Police Services Academy, in its seventh year, provides youths the opportunity to explore law enforcement services with hands-on exercises, education and safety training. The eight-week academy, which meets once a week, takes place June 16-Aug. 4. Space is limited, but the program is free. SW Ranches school starts 'Club 2000'

McCarthy High School in Southwest Ranches this year created “Club 2000” - the Hall of Fame of SAT takers. Students who obtain a cumulative SAT score of 2000 or more will be admitted into the club, acknowledging their outstanding academic dedication and accomplishments. The purpose of Club 2000 is to motivate students who will be taking the SAT to work toward obtaining higher scores. “The goal of creating this club is to celebrate the accomplishments of students who have obtained the outstanding SAT score of 2000 or higher,” said Dr. Carmen Ugalde, club facilitator and sophomore guidance counselor, in a statement. “Obtaining a score of 2000 or greater in the SAT is no easy task.
